What Do d80, d90 and d95 Mean on My Dryer?
If your LG dryer is showing d80, d90 or d95, it's telling you the dryer vent is blocked. The number is roughly how restricted the airflow is: d80 means about 80% blocked, d90 about 90%, and d95 about 95%. The dryer's Flow Sense system watches how well air moves from the dryer to the outside, and it shows these codes when lint buildup, a crushed hose, or a stuck vent flap is choking that airflow off.
These codes are a warning, not a broken dryer. But a blocked vent means longer dry times, a hotter laundry room, extra wear on the dryer, and a real fire risk, since lint is highly flammable and a clogged line traps heat. The fix is getting air flowing again, and most of the time that means cleaning the vent line.
What each code means
-
d80: Airflow is about 80% restricted. Loads start taking longer to dry. Time to schedule a vent cleaning.
-
d90: About 90% restricted. Expect long dry times, a hot laundry room, and extra strain on the dryer.
-
d95: About 95% restricted. The vent is close to fully blocked. Get it cleared as soon as you can.
What you can check yourself
-
Clean the lint screen. Clear it before every load. If it looks coated, wash it with warm water and a soft brush.
-
Check the hose behind the dryer. Make sure it isn't crushed, kinked, or pinned flat against the wall.
-
Check the outside vent. With the dryer running, the flap should open all the way, with no lint packed around it.
When to call us
If the code comes back after all three checks, the blockage is inside the vent line in your walls, attic or roof. LG's own troubleshooting says to call a dryer vent cleaner at that point, and that's exactly what we do. We run an air hose through the full line from the outside back to the dryer, pull the lint out through the exterior vent, check the dryer connection, and test airflow at the outside vent before we leave.
Pricing is flat: one price for vents that exit through a wall and one for vents that exit through the roof. The price we give you over the phone is the price you pay. No surprise add-ons.
Our guarantee
If we make a mistake, or you notice something wrong after we leave, we'll come back and fix it for free.
Also offered: Air duct cleaning. Many customers book both in the same visit.
Common questions
Can I keep using my dryer with a d80 code? It will still dry, but every load takes longer and the vent keeps filling up. Schedule a cleaning soon, and treat d95 as urgent.
I cleaned the lint trap and the code is still there. Why? The lint screen only catches part of the lint. The rest builds up inside the duct. If the hose and outside flap look fine, the clog is in the vent line itself.
Why does my dryer keep getting these codes? Long vent runs and roof exits clog faster and restrict airflow more. They're common in newer Utah homes where the laundry room is far from an outside wall. Yearly cleaning keeps them clear.
My dryer isn't an LG. What do other brands show? Most other brands show a "Check Vent" light or message instead of a number. Same cause, same fix.
